Your Birdguide - Eric Herrmann

Eric‘s passion for the outdoors began while he was growing up on the plains of Bushmanland. His fascination with birds started while at high school, when he would spend hours staring at lapwings on the school’s sport fields, but it never passed beyond that point for some time…

It was only when exposed to the finer details of bird identification while working in the Kalahari with dedicated birders, that birds and birding became a real priority.

After completing a degree in conservation ecology, and undertaking bird research in the savannah’s surrounding Kimberley in the Northern Cape, he started his first ‘real’ job as a mammal scientist for a provincial nature conservation department.

Despite the perks that came with the job, which also included a number of exciting conservation projects, the lure of freedom and travel was too strong to suppress. He now freelances as a field biologist, allowing more time to pursue birding and nature photography.
