Located just outside Swellendam in the Overberg region, the Grootvadersbos Nature Reserve is a haven for Forest and Fynbos birds alike.

This trip requires an early start to the largest indigenous forest in the south-western Cape - the Grootvadersbos Nature Reserve. Here visitors can expect to see:

• Olive and Knysna Woodpecker
• Forest Canary
• Blue-mantled Crested Flycatcher
• Knysna and Yellow-throated Warbler
• Olive Bush Shrike
• as well as the majestic Crowned Eagle.

We continue to the Overberg, an area of sandveld Fynbos amongst wheatfields, which holds the largest concentration of Blue Cranes in the country. A mixture of Fynbos and Karoo birds such as Cape Grassbird, Cape Sugarbird, Denham's Bustard, Southern Tchagra and Cape Vulture may be found in and near the De Hoop Nature Reserve area.

The  Karoo Korhaan, Agulhas Long-billed and Agulhas Clapper Lark (colour form of Cape Clapper Lark) also occur here.
