Your Birdguide - Wilfred Reynolds

On his 9 th birthday, Wilfred was given a field guide to South African birds and his lifelong passion for birds began. Growing up on a farm (and, later, farming it) in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands provided the ideal opportunity to roam and explore the grasslands, bushveld, mountains, wetlands, and indigenous forests.

In the process Wilfred became intimately acquainted with the many local birds and especially interested in their nesting habits. He also developed a passion for helping family, friends, and other birders to discover and learn about the birds he loved.

Subsequently, Wilfred has travelled to many areas of Southern Africa to bird and has built a solid life list. For the past 25 years, most of his birding has been in Cape Town and the Western Cape, with forays to other areas in between.

After 55 years the birding passion remains strong, and the skills finely-honed. In addition to farming and winning an award for Veld Management, Wilfred has sharpened his people skills doing 4 years of PR work for an NPO in Khayelitsha (Cape Town’s biggest “township”) and 21 years of freelance training facilitation for corporates, local governments, and schools across SA.

So, whether you want to find that “lifer” for your list, to spend time watching those fascinating endemics, or to savour that “magical birding moment”, Wilfred can help you do it in an enjoyable environment where great birding skills and friendly conversation come together.
